Leadership Team

Get to know the people who equip and lead others to make Mariners the vibrant place it is. Please pray for them and offer to serve on the teams they lead so that Mariners can help more people on the coastside become committed follower of Jesus Christ.

our staff

Paul Richardson, Lead Pastor

I’m Paul, one of the pastors here at Mariners Church. I kinda’ oversee the whole deal here, but I have great people working alongside me both as volunteers as well as staff. Since 1988, I have been pastor of Mariners (you do the math). I came here because of the challenge of seeing God put together a church in an area where very few know Jesus in a personal way. It’s been a great ride. I grew up in Southern California and was in South Florida for three years before I came to Half Moon Bay. For those that pay attention to this stuff—I have a bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly, a master’s from Talbot Seminary (Biola) and a doctorate from Fuller Seminary. I have an incredible wife and family of whom I can’t get enough. When I have free time I enjoy riding my road bike, running miles along the bluffs, and working around the house. Other things I like are fly fishing, In N Out, and backpacking (when I can get away). I hate coffee. And tuna casserole. It’s always been my desire to be part of an authentic community of committed followers of Jesus Christ. I truly get excited when we see “Christ fully developed” in people (Galatians 4:19). Through the years, God has done an incredible work of building a group of people at Mariners who truly love God and seek to serve Him in a real way.

Mark Heath, Worship Pastor
Mark is a long-time resident of Half Moon Bay is also known as Dr. Mark, one of the town’s local chiropractors. His heart for worship and love for people is very apparent. He has been volunteering as a worship leader at Mariners for over 20 years. Mark, and his wife Kathy, are committed to our community by being involved in many activities. When not leading Mariners in worship, he goes to see and root for the SF Giants, runs and cycles.
Tracy Hummel, Financial Analyst
Emma Lodge, Office Manager

Originally from the UK, my husband and I arrived on the coast just over 8 years ago with our 2 dogs.  I started working at Mariners back in March 2017, originally as Children & Youth Administrator, but now as Office Manager. Mariners Church made us feel so welcome right from the start and, let me tell you, when you move somewhere and you don’t know a soul, having a church family makes all the difference. The Lord provided for us every step of the way. We can testify to His faithfulness, His loving care and His provision. We love the ocean, hiking and nice coffee (not necessarily in that order!)

Ivette Moctezuma, Outreach Director

I am Ivette Carrasco-Moctezuma I grew up on the Coast and graduated from Half Moon Bay High School. After working for a non-profit providing support and life skills to children and families with developmental disabilities, I left my position as a health educator to transition our daughter Laura Teresa in to junior high. It was during this time I decided to go back to school to earn a degree in biblical studies through Liberty University’s online program in Lynchburg, Virginia. When I’m is not busy taking a class, supporting my children with their various activities, or having coffee at Sam’s with my husband, Jorge, I am dedicating time to my extended family. My favorite verse from the Bible is Isaiah 40:31, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Jeremiah Armstrong

In 2016, my wife Stephanie and I moved to the coast side and joined Mariners.  We live in El Granada with our children Tabitha (6), April (4) and Preston (18 months).  I grew up in Northern California and have been practicing law since 2007.

In 2017, we joined a Life Group and I appreciate Mariners’ emphasis on the importance of Life Groups to help people grow closer to God and to each other.  I would like to see Mariners’ Children’s Ministry grow and further develop the next generation of Christ followers.

Favorite verse “Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day.  For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the tings which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Cor 4:16-18 (NASB)

Peter Lyons

One Saturday evening 11 years ago, after many years away from the Lord, my wife Clarise and I came to Mariners Church, realized what we had been missing and have been coming ever since.  We have lived in La Honda for 15 years. I have spent many years as a Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer in the automotive industry and run a few of my own businesses. More than anything, I love to fix and build things that are useful and am now interested in finding ways to do this; bringing people together with God in their lives.  My heart is to serve and I am looking forward to helping Mariners Church continue to grow and bring more people to know and follow our Lord Jesus as Mariners has done for myself and Clarise.

Favorite verse “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.  Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and shun evil.  This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones”.

Judy Duncan

I am the proud mother and grandmother of two sons and two daughters, a grandmother to three granddaughters and two grandsons.  I have lived in Half Moon Bay since 1997. My husband Foster and I have been attending Mariners for the last 13 years. We made Mariners our home because our beliefs and our “faith walk” is shared in the messages delivered at Mariners. As we move forward at Mariners, I see many of my personal goals in parallel with that “Great Commission”.

My professional career spanned 33 years working for IBM and other technology companies.  I feel that I have been very blessed and now is my time to “give back” utilizing some of the things that I have learned over my personal and professional lifetime. Paramount in my life is to SHARE THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST and the redemption he offers…which is for everyone.

My favorite bible verse is: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith…and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God…not by works, so that no-one can boast” Ephesians 2:19-20”.

Aida Rico

I’m the person on the right of the photo! I am married to Arturo with three daughters and four beautiful grandkids.  I live in Half Moon Bay and was born here but raised in Mexico. I’m kind of picky with food, but my favorite fast food is Panda Express!

I have been attending Mariners for about six years or more. What I would love to see happen at Mariners, is to reach seniors who want to attend church but don’t have a ride.

My favorite verse “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by work, so that no-one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2 : 8-10

Martha Longhi

I am a first-generation American. Born to Panamanian musician, Benny Velarde and Cuban entertainer, Yolanda Macedas Velarde in March1958 in San Francisco. I was raised in a diverse household that was filled with friends, family gatherings, food, live music, dance, and a bit of drama!  We lived next door to my grandmother, who was a devout Catholic. She started taking me to church at an early age. I remember falling in love with Christ around the age of 7.

In 1979, I married my high school sweetheart.  Our marriage lasted for 10 years and we were blessed with a daughter and son, Jasmin and Marcus. In August of 1999, I married my husband, Michael Longhi and we live in La Honda.  In 2017, I began to feel an urgency to reconnect with God. I had fallen away from my faith and felt so empty and lost. I returned to what I knew, the Catholic church, but I continued to feel untethered to God. I turned to new age theology for a time, but that too left me empty inside. 2020 rolled around along with all of its chaos, I again returned to the Catholic church but nothing seemed to fill the void I had inside. I finally surrendered and called out to God to guide me to where He wanted me to be. Then the Covid lock-down hit. I felt led to search online and soon discovered Mariners. There was an instant confirmation that this was where God wanted me to be. Mike and I began to watch each Sunday on YouTube and as soon as we were allowed to come in person, we did. In March of 2021 I was baptized in the Mariners parking lot. Soon after I began to serve on the tech team and more recently on the worship team.

In the last few weeks I have begun to take on additional tasks in the area of communications for Mariners. I want to see this church grow and become a resource for Half Moon Bay and its surrounding communities. To be a place where even the “unchurched” come for help and spiritual guidance. So many people are lost, not knowing that it’s about a relationship with Christ Jesus. My hope is that within the remainder of my life I can contribute to restoring the lost to Christ.

My favorite verse: “You, Oh Lord, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness.
Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me.For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me. Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me. For You are my strength. Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.” Psalm 31: 1-5
