Get to know the people who equip and lead others to make Mariners the vibrant place it is. Please pray for them and offer to serve on the teams they lead so that Mariners can help more people on the coastside become committed follower of Jesus Christ.
Paul Richardson, Lead Pastor
I’m Paul, one of the pastors here at Mariners Church. I kinda’ oversee the whole deal here, but I have great people working alongside me both as volunteers as well as staff. Since 1988, I have been pastor of Mariners (you do the math). I came here because of the challenge of seeing God put together a church in an area where very few know Jesus in a personal way. It’s been a great ride. I grew up in Southern California and was in South Florida for three years before I came to Half Moon Bay. For those that pay attention to this stuff—I have a bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly, a master’s from Talbot Seminary (Biola) and a doctorate from Fuller Seminary. I have an incredible wife and family of whom I can’t get enough. When I have free time I enjoy riding my road bike, running miles along the bluffs, and working around the house. Other things I like are fly fishing, In N Out, and backpacking (when I can get away). I hate coffee. And tuna casserole. It’s always been my desire to be part of an authentic community of committed followers of Jesus Christ. I truly get excited when we see “Christ fully developed” in people (Galatians 4:19). Through the years, God has done an incredible work of building a group of people at Mariners who truly love God and seek to serve Him in a real way.
Len Banks, Connections Pastor
I am Len, an assistant pastor at Mariners responsible for “connections” which to us means everything that connects people to each other and God – going deeper in LifeGroups, LifeMission, and connectedness at Mariners. I grew up in the East Bay, but have been living on the coastside for many years now and have been at Mariners since July 2001. Believe it or not I like the fog. I did my undergrad studies at Bethany College and have a Masters of Arts degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. My wife, Diane, and I have an incredible daughter and we enjoy family times going to movies, snuggling on the couch together or going to Disneyland/world. I am admittedly a bit crazy for all things Starbucks and have quite the collection of their ornaments. I also enjoy watercolor painting. One of my favorite Bible passages is found in Psalm 37:4-6; “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” Delight – Commit – Trust; a great way to connect with God. You can often see me going for my near daily fix of Starbucks! So go early in the morning most weekdays if you want to drop-in and “connect” with me.
Diane Banks, Operations Director
I am Diane Banks, and I wear many hats here at Mariners. As the Church Operations Director I am the voice you will speak to first when you call the church office. Also, many of you will know my face because I often serve at the Welcome Center on Sundays to answer any questions people may have about Mariners. I was born in Sacramento and at two weeks old my parents taped a bow on my head and took me to church. I proudly grew up as a church rat (a kid that spends more time at church than at home) in a mega church in Sacramento. It was a natural decision to attend Bible college when I got older, where I got my “MRS” degree, and married Pastor Len Banks. We have served in ministry together for over 30 years now and I love serving side-by-side with him in ministry and in life. We have one daughter and we have raised her here on the coastside the last 20 years. We are passionate about travel and love to visit Disney parks as often as we can. I feel the best way to understand the world is to experience it through someone else’s eyes. I feel we are all called to serve in the world God has placed us in. In Luke 12;48 it says “…to whom much is given, much is required” I feel like God has blessed me so much that I willingly give back to Him all that I have and all that I am.
Kaitlin Gehret, KidMin Director
I am Kaitlin! I help the littlest ones here as the KidMin Director. I have been attending Mariners since I was nursery age and have volunteered in many ways since. I graduated from the small Christian college in Redding, California: Simpson University. There I received my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and my minor in Bible and Theology. Before transferring, I received two Associate degrees. One in English, the other in Early Childhood Education. Although my degrees are all over the map, my focus in mainly on Early Childhood Education and fostering the faith of the young ones so that they may grow to be strong warriors in God’s army. When I’m not working I generally enjoy time with some kind of warm drink either coffee or tea and will sit and write stories for fun. If I’m not doing that I love walking my dog and spending time with my family. One passage that often sticks out to me is Proverbs 3:5-6 which states, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Trust God and He will take care of you. I love knowing that we don’t have to worry about our own futures, God has that in control.
Mark Heath, Worship Pastor
Mark is a long-time resident of Half Moon Bay is also known as Dr. Mark, one of the town’s local chiropractors. His heart for worship and love for people is very apparent. He has been volunteering as a worship leader at Mariners for over 20 years. Mark, and his wife Kathy, are committed to our community by being involved in many activities. When not leading Mariners in worship, he goes to see and root for the SF Giants, runs and cycles.
Tracy Hummel, Financial Analyst
Emma Lodge, Assistant to Children & Youth Ministries
Ivette Moctezuma, Outreach Director
I am Ivette Carrasco-Moctezuma I grew up on the Coast and graduated from Half Moon Bay High School. After working for a non-profit providing support and life skills to children and families with developmental disabilities, I left my position as a health educator to transition our daughter Laura Teresa in to junior high. It was during this time I decided to go back to school to earn a degree in biblical studies through Liberty University’s online program in Lynchburg, Virginia. When I’m is not busy taking a class, supporting my children with their various activities, or having coffee at Sam’s with my husband, Jorge, I am dedicating time to my extended family. My favorite verse from the Bible is Isaiah 40:31, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
